This is a school mixed media art workshop, based on the idea that the starting point of a drawing can go in multiple directions. The many varied uses of mixed media gives the students the power of creativity using colours, textures and materials to see their original ideas speedily take on levels of new depth and identity as they boldly allow themselves to explore the edges of their creativity during this mixed media art workshop with Oliver.
This workshop gives students the ability to move from one medium to another, as so often, artists are tempted to stay with just one medium. Mixed media can sometimes help them to identify their strengths, and drawing skills aren’t necessarily the be all and end all.

School Arts and Visual Thinking

An introduction to the power of doodling. Jotting things down that you can’t necessarily put into words, or (maybe because they are just a dream) or don’t know whether you will ever do them, through to seeing the power of collections of images that actually start to show you how you are thinking, and how you can remember things/co-ordinate/communicate/plan.

School Creative Identity

Oliver is practiced at coming alongside students in a class setting, as they begin to examine their unique inherent identities, and is able to facilitate workshops that enable the students to begin to ask -and answer- important questions about themselves. Looking at concepts such as how do I build up my weaknesses and enhance my strengths? What is it that have I always dreamed that I would like to do? Finding that unique portfolio of creativity that often lies untapped, but is inside each of us. There are many ways we can create, and Oliver can offer as little or as much tutored structure, tailored to each class’ needs and learning ability.

School Plein Air Printmaking

Plein Air Printmaking for school classes remains a firm favourite. Each year new schools discover the wealth of added value their students receive and can translate into prints made in the Cornish landscapes with Oliver.
Catering for all normal class sizes, students are able to work on their individual etchings and print them in situ, from Oliver’s mobile printing studio. The benefits of working in this way are manifold, and the experience is one that will last in each student’s memory for a lifetime.

Full Day School Workshop

Most of the activities that Oliver offers can be carried out within a day with a whole class community. There are some masterclass activities that can benefit from two days, but in the main Oliver is used to setting the tempo of a workshop for the keenest and also the more reluctant creatives alike. With primary aged students, a whole days art might seem too much to maintain focus. But because of Olivers multilayered approach to lesson planning it often turns out to be a breakthrough time for those students who normally loose their focus part way through.
Oliver is very happy to bring a varied palette of activities, he’s comfortable with the mix and match approach so that all learners and colleagues get the most out to the day. Sketchbooks, Printmaking, Visual thinking, land art & creative identity, to name a few.
School Artist in Residence

Oliver is used to travelling to schools around the world. He brings with him, his experience as an artist and visual thinking specialist and can deliver this to a classroom or a whole school community. Given the opportunity (in the UK & Europe) he’ll also be happy to bring his mobile print and live performance studio. Whether it be for an arts week or just a few days, there’s lots of variety in the list of activities he offers. So all parts of the school community (including teachers and parents ) can be involved.

School Trips and Camps

As creativity can be nurtured anywhere, Oliver is very happy to work with a class of students in their normal school environment. However he believes something often much more memorable happens when young people get to be creative in the outdoors. We don’t have to go far, just somewhere different, so that senses can be awakened in a new way. Over the past twenty plus years, Oliver has facilitated many a school arts outing or summer camp. He has a numerous arts based activities to offer that would keep a group of students busy and happily creative for a number of days given the opportunity. These outdoor workshop activities are suitable for young people from the age seven and upwards.
